Welcome

The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through German International Cooperation (GIZ since 1 January 2011) has been implementing a “Climate Change and Biodiversity - Conservation and Sustainable Management of Natural Resources” Programme together with the Mongolian Ministry of Nature, Environment and Tourism (MNET) since 2009 based on the experiences of “Nature Conservation and Buffer Zone Development” Project (1995 - 2002), “Conservation and Sustainable Management of Natural Resources” Project (2002 - 2004), and “Conservation and Sustainable Management of Natural Resources” Programme (2005 - 2008) implemented in “Khan Khentee” Strictly Protected Area, “Gorkhi Terelj” National Park, “Gobi Gurvan Saikhan” National Park and in their buffer zones.

In the framework of priority areas for cooperation between Mongolia and Germany on Environmental Policy, Conservation and Management of Natural Resources, including Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency the Programme focuses overall on biodiversity and climate change, conservation and sustainable management of natural resources; and on advising how to apply the new concepts to national policy papers and strategies.

The environmental awareness raising and environmental education are crucial parts in the long term conservation and sustainable management of natural resources in Mongolia.

Therefore the Programme complements ongoing activities in the environmental field to strengthen the environmental awareness in Mongolia and improve environmental behavior through increased environmental education, media coverage and training programs for specific target groups.
